The Thermals: Jump on before the bandwagon gets too crowded

It's rare that I know what will be my favorite albums of the year but right now with a month left in this new world of ours (we got the House trick! Rummy's a wrap!) here is one right now:

The Thermals-The Body, The Blood, The Machine

Kids. Hit the record store or the iTunes, or whatever you do to get music and pick.this.album.up. It's pretty fresh.

Picture Ted Leo and Fugazi. Now imagine if Ted Leo and Fugazi got up in each other's grills, woke up the next morning, sweaty (sans Plan B) and kinda nauseous, were left with a thankful "accident" and named that precious gift the Thermals. This is what I'm talking about.

This is an fast and furious album that has a highly intelligent Biblical bent that makes you remember when artists got political and it made sense (I'm looking at you Mr. Leo...nice work!) The first track on the album, "Here's Your Future", is a brutal blast of power punk and makes you want to pick up an instrument and start a band. (Sidenote: My mister bought me a bass for my birthday last year and I have yet to get my ass in gear...this might help. Heart you boo...don't hate.) I first heard it on KEXP.org and had to find the MP3 on-line to send to my peeps. It is that good.

Being that good (and I like to get obsessed) we went to see them at Studio B in the BK (I'm getting wayyyy too old to schlep 90 miles into the 'Burg to hang with the youngsters, sigh) during the CMJ and had a blast during their set. Mind you the sound guy should have been shot because he was mixing for deaf pygmies but the the singer compensated for the mishap. They were just there to tear it up and build it back up again. There was no senseless banter, just a barrage of sound and seamless transitions to each song. Oh and the whole show was a wily 10 bucks.
